Bernice Gummer [ Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and Coach ]

Bernice Gummer is a Specialist Clinical Practitioner trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for children, young people, and families. Bernice is an Executive Functioning coach for children and young people with neurodiversity and learning needs. With over 30 years’ experience in education prior to gaining her CBT qualifications, Bernice has dedicated her career to supporting children and young people whose learning and achievement are affected by neurodiversity and mental health challenges.

Bernice has an established private practice in the UK and internationally, and has previously worked within a London NHS clinical team. Her background as a teacher, senior leader, and learning specialist has given her deep insight into the challenges faced by students with dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, and co-occurring difficulties. Bernice works collaboratively with families, schools, and colleges to develop realistic and effective strategies that enhance wellbeing, learning, and academic progress.

Bernice trained at the Anna Freud Centre (UCL), where her MSc research focused on developing and evaluating a group CBT intervention for test anxiety — a condition affecting up to 30% of GCSE learners. The intervention successfully reduced anxiety levels and improved performance outcomes.

In her practice, Bernice provides individual, family, and school-based interventions both in person and online. She integrates coaching methods with CBT to support emotional regulation, executive functioning, and confidence in learning. Her work also extends to children unable to attend school due to trauma or anxiety, helping them and their families rebuild positive educational engagement.
